Running From My Childhood

Updated: May 15, 2023

We have all witnessed the ongoing debates and countless research by scientists and other scholars as to whether our childhood shapes our adult lives and to what extent? In order to gain deeper insights into this phenomenon, OPENSPACE presented a blockbuster convo ‘Running From My Childhood’ on the 29th of October 2021. The conversation hosted at one of our favorite locations; Kukun, Nyaniba Estates was moderated by our founder and global curator Sydney Sam. The conversation aimed at shedding light on how our childhood experiences shaped our adult life.

Throughout the conversation, it was evident that what happened or did not happen to you as a child was deeply etched into parts of your subconscious that you may not even be aware of. Your motivations, fears, desires, reservations, and even the types of relationships you create are all, in some way or form, related to your childhood experiences. This soul-searching conversation sparked an interest in each of the attendees to reflect on their upbringing; the good, the bad and the ugly and how these events influenced the individuals they are today. To appreciate ‘the good’ and heal from ‘the bad’ and ‘the ugly’. The event was thought-provocative, intriguing, engaging and fun! To wrap up the event, Hundred Percent, an author and poet shared a live performance with our audience. What a night! See y’all!
